Entergy New Orleans said an equipment issue at the substation that feeds the French Quarter caused widespread power outages just before noon Friday.

The outage lasted for more than two hours, with most of the power being restored by 2:20 p.m.

A spokesperson for Entergy said that personnel are on site and more crews are responding to the substation. The company could not confirm how many residents were impacted by the outage.

According to the Entergy New Orleans Outage map, several outages have been reported inside the French Quarter.

“A serviceman is working to determine the cause of your outage,” the outage map said. “Power will be restored as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

WWL-TV’s station located on North Rampart Street experienced a loss of power during the incident. Patrons at French Quarter restaurants were seen standing outside. Traffic lights were also not working.

It is unclear what caused the outage.
