Report: Construction begins on first New Orleans Trader Joe's

The store would be 13,000 square feet and have more than 100 parking spaces.

NEW ORLEANS — Construction is underway for the first Trader Joe's in New Orleans.

Our partners at the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reported that the California-based grocer is expected to open next year across Rocheblave Street from the New Orleans VA Medical Center.

Havana Gazlay, a spokesperson for The Feil Organization, confirmed with NOLA.com that construction has begun on the Tulane Avenue site for a "specialty grocer."

"Timeline for completion is summer 2025," Gazlay said.

The store would be 13,000 square feet and have more than 100 parking spaces. This is the same size as the Trader Joe's in Metairie on Veterans Memorial Boulevard, which opened in 2016.

Last month, the New Orleans City Council voted to demolish a school building to make way for a Trader Joe's Uptown. The Uptown location is being built by a different development group.
