City awards new sanitation contracts for New Orleans service areas

The contract start date is April 1.

NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell joined city and contractor officials to announce the awarding of two new contracts for service areas 1 and 4 during a press conference held along the Mississippi River in Algiers Point on Wednesday.

IV Waste, which was contracted to service area 2 last year, has been contracted to service area 1 which covers Uptown, while Richard's Disposal will service area 4 in Algiers.

The mayor said the projected annual cost increase is about $11.7 million, and that there are no expectations for fee increases for the public at this time.

"As I've always said, I wanted to demonstrate that we can provide quality, consistent, reliable services with enhanced services," said Cantrell. " And again, for people to see it in action and really begin to benefit from the services across the board."

The contract start date is April 1.
