NEW ORLEANS — Crowds flooded the French Quarter on Sunday evening and Molly's on the Market for the Downtown Irish Club Parade.
“It’s been a busy busy busy bar all day long," Manager, Trey Monaghan said, “The history between the Downtown Irish and my grandfather who started the bar 50 years ago created a connection between the two groups, and for them to still come by and still stop, it’s a real honor.”
Events such as the Metairie Road Parade and Super Sunday were postponed due to weather.
Super Sunday will be held next Sunday, March 24. Metairie will hold its parade on Sunday, April 7.
But the weather cleared just in time for the Downtown Irish Club to march through the Quarter.
“The luck of the Irish came through. You don’t see any rain, do you?” one member said.
Members of the club say even if you're not Irish, you can still join the fun.
“Everybody’s Irish today," one said.
“Tomorrow I’m Italian again," another said.
Some revelers traveled across the country to take part in the traditions, and others came all the way from Ireland.
We asked some Irishmen how a New Orleans St. Patrick's Day stacks up to the real deal.
“This is a lot better. This is a lot better than Ireland," one said.
“This place is off the chain. It’s fantastic," another said.
That's what happens when you mix the luck of the Irish with the spirit of New Orleans.
