Bayou Sauvage reopens after wildfire

The fire started on July 30, after what experts said was a lightning strike.

NEW ORLEANS — U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials announced that Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge has reopened for normal activities after a wildfire burned 448 acres.

The fire has been declared out. It started on Sunday, July 30, 2023, after what experts said was a lightning strike.
