1 killed in fatal crash near Naval Station in Belle Chasse, LSP reports

The crash caused major backups for miles including across the southbound Belle Chasse Bridge.

BELLE CHASSE, La. — Baton Rouge native Kyrin Dotson, 19, was killed while walking along Highway 23 in Belle Chasse when he was struck by a truck just north of Seatrain Road early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. in the southbound lanes on Highway 23 at Concord Street according to Total Traffic Network and Louisiana State Police.

An initial investigation revealed that Dotson was walking directly in the flow of traffic when a 2004 Toyota Tundra was traveling northbound on LA 23 when it struck Dotson in the left lane of the roadway

Dotson was pronounced deceased on the scene. 

The driver of the truck was restrained and uninjured. 

The crash caused major backups for miles including across the southbound Belle Chasse Bridge but was eventually cleared about 7 a.m. and traffic was moving again in the area.     

Routine toxicology samples were obtained from Dotson and the driver of the Toyota for analysis. 

This crash remains under investigation.
