FRANKLINTON, La. — A Washington Parish sergeant was badly injured when an impaired driver's car hit his unit as he was responding to a call for help Thursday night, according to the sheriff's office.
Sergeant John O'Hern was driving to answer a call for help and was south of Franklinton on Highway 25, when he was hit head-on by an impaired driver.
The sheriff's office said that O'Hern sustained serious injuries that included a shattered pelvis, a dislocated femur and various bumps, cuts and bruises.
"We are reaching out to ask for your prayers and support for our own Sergeant John O'Hern," said a post to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office's Facebook page.
"We know that the road to recovery will be long and challenging for Sergeant O’Hern, but we stand by him and support him fully. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
