Two brothers killed in Slidell's first homicides of 2023

Police say 41-year-old Mario Scott killed the two brothers and then fled through New Orleans and into Jefferson Parish where he was arrested by JPSO deputies.

NEW ORLEANS — Two brothers were killed outside their home in Slidell's first homicides of 2023.

Slidell police say 47-year-old Miguel Doucette and 36-year-old Kerry Doucette were killed in a double shooting on Terrace Avenue around 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The gunshots pulled Dennis Mitchell from his home.

"I heard shots and stuff and I came down," he said. "And I see a body laying over there."

Police say the shooting started as an argument.

"We see this all too often where, unfortunately, in today's society, when you confront somebody, you just don't know what you're going to be dealing with," Slidell Police Public Information Officer Daniel Seuzeneau said. "And that's what happened today."

Police say 41-year-old Mario Scott killed the two brothers and then fled through New Orleans and into Jefferson Parish where he was arrested by JPSO deputies that afternoon.

He's being held in the Jefferson Parish Detention Center and will be booked on two counts of first-degree homicide once he's transferred to St. Tammany Parish.

"There no question about it," Seuzeneau said. "He will be brought to justice and he will pay for what he did today.

Meanwhile, neighbors are still struggling to understand how an argument ended with two men dead.

"The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy and that's what he did right here," Mitchell said. "The Devil was on Tupelo Street in Slidell, Louisiana this morning and took two lives. Two souls gone. All I can say is, I hope they was saved."
