Burn ban lifted for Tangipahoa Parish, officials say

Officials said the weather will make it safe for outside burning for right now, but could reinstate the burn-ban if the conditions change.

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — Tangipahoa Parish officials lifted the burn ban on Friday due to heavy rain.

They said the weather will make it safe for outside burning for right now, but could reinstate it if the conditions change.

Parish President Robby Miller urged residents to not leave fires unattended.

The burn ban lift comes after it was issued last week.

Parish President Robby Miller issued the ban due to "extremely dry conditions and at the request of the parish's local fire chiefs," a release said.

Miller said the ban includes all open residential and commercial burning.

The ban does not include:

  • BBQ pits,
  • grills,
  • fire pits

Residents are asked to "use extreme caution"  and stay in contact with the local fire department.
