Armed man surrenders after standoff in Old Mandeville

According to WWL Louisiana's Whitney Miller, the situation started due to an alleged dispute and ended without further incident.

MANDEVILLE, La. — An armed man, who barricaded himself inside a residence near the intersection of Depre and Jefferson streets in Old Mandeville on Wednesday afternoon, peacefully surrendered to authorities hours after the standoff began.

According to WWL Louisiana's Whitney Miller, the situation started due to an alleged dispute and ended without further incident.

St. Tammany Fire District No. 4 announced the activity on social media shortly after 1 p.m., and a SWAT team arrived shortly afterward.

According to officials, the district is currently on standby to assist the Mandeville Police Department with the situation. Meanwhile. the Mandeville PD also acknowledged the assistance of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office in what they are calling an "isolated situation." 

Miller reported the incident ended at approximately 4 p.m. after starting around 10 a.m. Neighbors told WWL the man was alone in the home during the hours-long standoff and that he was an acquaintance of the homeowner. 

Authorities wouldn’t say how he got into the home but confirmed that the homeowner was able to get out unharmed.

Officials are asking people to avoid the area if possible.
