ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that left one person dead on Tuesday.
Police say the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on the Interstate 10 Twin Span Bridge in St. Tammany Parish.
The pedestrian walked into the travel lanes of Interstate 10 westbound from the right shoulder at the same time, a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia was traveling westbound in the right lane of Interstate 10 and was hit, according to police.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the family.
The crash is still under investigation.
Toxicology samples were taken from both the pedestrian and the driver of the Freightliner for analysis.
