COVINGTON, La. — A Mississippi man broke into a Covington home and raped a victim under the age of 13 early Monday morning, according to police.
Zachary Lepine, 34, of Picayune, Mississippi, faces one count of first-degree rape, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of felony theft and one count of simple battery. Covington Police say more counts are expected.
According to the police, Lepine broke into the home on East Magee Street and assaulted the child before taking off when he was confronted by the homeowner.
Police said officers, along with deputies from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office found Lepine a few blocks away and he was taken into custody.
"At this time, it does not appear Lepine knew the victim or had connections to our community," said Chief Michael Ferrell.
