Man accused of killing priest appears court

Last month, a judge granted a motion to seal a piece of evidence that Tyson's team argued would not have ensured a fair trial.

COVINGTON, La. — The man accused of killing a priest and his assistant appeared in court on Friday.

Authorities say in 2022, Antonio Tyson broke into Ruth Prat's home, beating Prat and Father Otis Young, and then killing them. Tyson then stole Prat's car.

Young and Prat's severely burned bodies were found near a glass-making company. Prat was a caretaker for Young, but investigators say Tyson had no connection with the two victims.

Some motions have been deferred to a later date. There is a status hearing slated for October 4th.
