TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — A man who had been separated from his wife for a year stalked her, put a tracking device in her car, sent her flowers that she was highly allergic to, came to her homeand eventually killed her, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

49-year-old David Hernandez was arrested on Tuesday in the death of his wife, 45-year-old Lisa Hernandez.

Investigators say after a year of separation, David Hernandez would randomly show up at Lisa Hernandez's place of employment. Detectives also found a tracking device from Lisa’s vehicle, which was linked to David. In addition he sent her flowers that included lilies, to which she is highly allergic.

Deputies found Lisa in her bedroom lying unresponsive while covered in blood between the bed and a dresser on March 20, around 9 p.m. Detectives figured out that David staged a burglary at her Ponchatoula home  and later threw items that he used from her home in the homicide into Lake Pontchartrain.

Law enforcement agencies were able to find the items.

David Hernandez was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on one count of second-degree murder and one count of obstruction of justice.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said it received help from the St Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, Causeway Police Department, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Land, Air and Sea Emergency Rescue Division in the investigation.
