Four rescued from large apartment fire in Mandeville

Smoke from the fire was visible Sunday afternoon from as far away as Metairie, across the Causeway.

MANDEVILLE, La. — At least four people have been rescued from a fire at a Mandeville apartment complex Sunday, according to firefighters.

The fire was first reported around 11 a.m. at Cypress Lake Apartments on North Causeway Boulevard.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke and immediately called for more units, said Jeremy Windom, a spokesman for St. Tammany Fire District 4.

"The scene is very active," Windsom said at 12:30 p.m. "We've called in additional resources: some of our off-duty personnel who are available."

Smoke from the fire was visible Sunday afternoon from as far away as Metairie, across the Causeway.

Four people were rescued from the burning building and treated by paramedics at the scene. None were injured.

Windsom said firefighters were still battling the blaze, and investigators would not be able to determine where the fire originated until after it is extinguished.
