LORANGER, La. — The Louisiana State Police began investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of 59-year-old bicyclist Clayton Ard of Loranger on Monday morning.
According to police, Troop L was on the scene at LA Highway 40 near Brennon Lane in Tangipahoa Parish shortly after 6:45 a.m.
Investigators said Ard was riding southbound on Hwy 40 when he was hit by a 2018 Hyundai Sonata traveling in the same direction.
Ard sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the Hyundai was wearing a seatbelt and uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation.
LSP reminds bicyclists to "never assume that a motorist can see you."
"Wearing an approved bicycle helmet, reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are vital in preventing crashes and avoiding injuries," police further stated. "Louisiana law requires bicyclists to remain as close to the right side of the roadway as practicable and obey all traffic laws."
Troopers also remind motorists to never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained.
