COVINGTON, La. — Ever since the company broke ground, the excitement for the Covington Costco has been growing. So much so, the store has its own Facebook fan page with nearly 10,000 followers.
General Manager David Hernandez said they will officially open August 28 at 8AM and says he's aware of the growing excitement on social media.
“We have heard," Hernandez said, "And some of the construction guys have even talked about photos showing up that they’re not even aware of, but social media is a big part of the excitement and to see everybody excited that we’re coming out, it’s almost like our own fan base, and we’re excited to be here.”
By the end of the month, the caution tape will come down, construction will cease, and the wait will be over. While the anticipation has been growing online, Hernandez said he's been busy hiring folks in-person.
“At one point, we were doing almost 70 interviews a day," Hernandez said.
The store has already hired around 180 new employees. 200 would be fully-staffed, Hernandez said.
The starting pay is $18.50/hour including benefits. Some employees have already started registering customers for membership and stocking inventory.
“Overall, I think us being here is just a big growth opportunity, not only for us, but for the community," Hernandez said.
