UPDATE: City officials announced that the intersection of Rue Rochelle and Gause Boulevard will be closed for emergency repair until Monday, Feb. 19. A boil advisory is also in effect for parts of Slidell until further notice.
The Slidell Police Department issued a traffic alert due to a broken water main on Thursday afternoon.
According to a Slidell PD at 5:14 p.m., Rue Rochelle southbound is shut down at Gause Boulevard, and motorists can still turn northbound onto Rue Rochelle from Gause at this time.
The broken main initially caused flooding in the area which initially forced police to block traffic at that location.
Crews are still on the scene working to fix the broken main.
Police have asked motorists to proceed with caution and avoid the area if possible.
