HAMMOND, La. — Our neighbors on the Northshore are helping Hurricane Helene victims.
Gnarly Barley's Tap Room Manager, Jonathan Cranfield, is familiar with some of the hardest hit areas. He's hiked the Appalachian Trail since he was a teenager, and he credits North Carolina for how he got into brewing.
However, the area is not as prepared for hurricanes as we are, Cranfield said.
“We lost our home in Katrina, so seeing the footage on TV and social media of an area I know, and love and respect and I think a lot of people down here have a unique perspective on what they’re going through," Cranfield said.
The Hammond Brewery posted on Tuesday that it would accept non-perishable food, new or gently used clothing, and water donations.
Can openers, baby diapers, formula, and pet food are the most needed items, Cranfield said.
Now through Friday, for every donation you bring in, you will receive $1 off a pint of beer.
Cranfield and another employee plan to drive the donations to another brewery in North Carolina on Sunday. That brewery will disperse the items to those in need.
If you can donate a U-Haul for Sunday's journey, please contact the brewery.
