NEW ORLEANS – An NOPD motorcycle officer was injured in an accident on Canal Street Thursday, shortly before noon.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Canal Street and Roosevelt Way.
According to an eyewitness, several motorcycle officers seemed to be escorting some buses along the street when the injured officer tried to stop his bike and was hopping on his leg trying to make the stop when the motorcycle fell on his leg.
“Everyone came and tried to help him and they put a tarp over him because of the rain,” said the eyewitness.
NOPD said the officer sustained a knee injury and was treated at a local hospital. The officer was participating in a training exercise, NOPD says.
