NOPD investigates a Central City homicide

When officers arrived, they discovered an unidentified 35-year-old Hispanic male with at least one gunshot wound to his body.

NEW ORLEANS — UPDATE: The New Orleans Police Department arrested 24-year-old Jose Gabriel Gamboa-Escobar on Jan. 3 in connection with this homicide investigation.

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that happened Sunday morning in the 2600 block of First Street.

According to an initial police report, at about 4:05 a.m., NOPD First District detectives responded to a call about a shooting victim at the location.

When officers arrived, they discovered 35-year-old Melvin Alberto Rodriguez Manueles with at least one gunshot wound to his body.  EMS arrived on the scene and declared the victim dead.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person or persons responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.
