NOFD investigating apartment complex fire with fatality in New Orleans

An apartment complex had caught fire, resulting in one death and no additional injuries.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Fire Department is investigating a fire at an apartment complex at the 2000 block of Simon Bolivar Avenue that left one man dead, according to a press release.

The NOFD responded to a fire at around 12:39 p.m. on Friday afternoon and found a seven-unit two-story apartment building heavily involved in flames.

Firefighters were able to put the blaze out and evacuate surviving residents as well as a dog from the apartments. However, they discovered the body of a man in the bedroom that they believed was the apartment of origin.

The man's body had been severely burned to the point where it was impossible to determine the cause of the death at the scene of the fire.

No injuries were reported outside of the fatality and the NOFD said the cause of the fire is under investigation. The NOFD said that three residents have been displaced as a result of the fire.
