N.O. Turbine 4 went offline as Flash Flood Warning was issued Saturday; several underpasses closed

The flash flood warning was in effect until 9:30 p.m. S&WB said pumps are running but some may still experience street flooding.

NEW ORLEANS — A flash flood warning was issued for parts of southeast Louisiana Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The flash flood warning was in effect until 9:30 p.m. Officials said between 2 to 3 inches of rain had fallen and they expected up to 2 inches of additional rainfall.

This came after Sewerage and Water Board announced that one of its power sources, Turbine 4 was taken offline amid heavy rain. Turbine 4 is the same source that stopped working during an overnight storm two months ago, that may have contributed to street flooding.

The city of New Orleans is allowed neutral ground parking during the flood warning.

The following areas are closed due to high water:  Carrollton underpass, Canal underpass, I-610/Gentilly underpass, exit ramp I-10 east to Downman Road. Best advice

Officials said it was due to a potential mechanical issue. They also said in a tweet that "pumps are running, but some streets may see localized flooding due to rain intensities."

NWS officials said between 2 to 3 inches of rain had fallen and they expect up to 2 inches of additional rainfall. The areas impacted include:

New Orleans, Marrero, Metairie, Avondale, Harvey, Timberlane,
Chalmette, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Bridge City,
Elmwood, River Ridge, Terrytown, Estelle, Woodmere, Waggaman,
Arabi and Lakefront Airport.

This includes the following Interstates...
Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 224 and 243.
Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4.

Officials ask residents to avoid flooded roads.
