NEW ORLEANS — Two people escaped an early morning fire at their home in New Orleans' Bywater area on Wednesday.

According to the New Orleans Fire Department, the fire was reported just before 2:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of Royal Street. Firefighters arrived to find the front of a one-story wood-frame home fully engulfed in flames with fire on both sides that had spread into the attic.

The NOFD said that the front of the home sustained heavy fire damage with the rear sustaining light fire, smoke, and water damage. The two people who were home at the time of the fire escaped without injury.

The fire department said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters are also investigating why the area also experienced a power outage at the time of the fire.
