Swifties flock to merch stands early, Audubon gets in on the craze

Hundreds of 'Swifties' are arriving in New Orleans and saying to themselves, "I don't know how it gets better than this."

NEW ORLEANS — Hundreds of Swifties are arriving in New Orleans and saying to themselves, " I don't know how it gets better than this." Many of them are set to see Taylor Swift at the dome on Halloween weekend and they didn't "sleep in half the day like old times' sake."

They got up early and got in line to buy merch. WWL Louisiana's reporter Winston Reed has more.

At Champions Square, the crowds have been pretty steady as people try to get their hands on Taylor Swift merchandise. Winston caught up with the first fan, who arrived at 5 a.m. on Wednesday. She wore a '1989-era shirt ahead of the concert this weekend.

She said she plans on wearing "I'm going as the 1989 era, so lots of sequins and glitter for sure."

Winston also spoke to a dad who showed up and said he's been busy making sure that his 10-year-old daughter has a great time.

"My daughter loves it," the dad said. "She knows every song. She can't wait to get into the concert and dance for four hours. I think it's going to be the greatest experience of her life," he said.

Another Taylor Swift fan bought merchandise for a good cause.

"We have an auction this weekend at our school fair," she said. "I thought that it would be a really good item to get to help benefit our kids' school."

The merchandise setup is Swifty-friendly. You can purchase items from Champions Square on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, fans can buy items from the Smoothie King Center.

You don't need concert tickets to get Taylor Swift gear.

It seems like just about everyone is gearing up to give Swifities a fun time in the Crescent City, and cash in on the Swiftonomics. That includes Audubon Zoo, the aquarium, and the insectarium.

Starting on Friday they're going wild with special decorations to turn both facilities into all the different eras, with sections all mapped out.

Swifties can collect different friendship bracelets and there's Taylor Swift-inspired merch available in the gift shops, which will be blasting Taylor's music all weekend.

Look for special Swift features on the elephant statues, in the penguin habitat, and even underwater at the Maya Reef exhibit.
