Super Bowl LIX improvements beyond Downtown

It’s the first of five major infrastructure projects planned for New Orleans East, as the city prepares for Super Bowl LIX.

NEW ORLEANS — Ever since Senator Ted Hickey Bridge, known to most as Seabrook Bridge, closed earlier this year, commuter Chris Williams describes his drive to work as chaotic.

“It makes it a headache to get to here, or get gas or to come into the East period,” Williams said.

After years of frequent closures and repairs, State Coordinator for Infrastructure and Economic Development for Super Bowl LIX Michael Hecht says it will be open for business at the end of next month.

It’s the first of five major infrastructure projects planned for New Orleans East, as the city prepares for Super Bowl LIX.

“This is the opportunity to make improvements that needed to be done to benefit residents from years to come,” Hecht said.

Next on the list, is Downman Road. Super Bowl officials say the city has a $5,300,000 plan to replace the entire street, making for a smoother drive into the city from the Lakefront Airport.

The project also includes street light repairs in the East along I-10.

“It will bring an element of safety and beautification,” Hecht said.

The last two, are beautification efforts, including signage updates and median improvements.

Several of the projects are still in the planning process, but the city plans to complete them by February 2025.
