Stay alert, more rain is expected across Southeast Louisiana

With storms in the forecast through Saturday morning, you'll want to keep your rain gear close and stay alert on the road.

NEW ORLEANS — With storms in the forecast through Saturday morning, you'll want to keep your rain gear close and stay alert on the road. Low-lying areas could experience flash flooding.

On Thursday, the skies opened up across Southeast Louisiana.

In New Orleans, residents watched to see if the usual spots would flood, including a busy corner of Magazine Street.

Meanwhile, on the Northshore, five sandbag sites have been set up across the parish for residents to shore up their homes.

• Airport Road Public Works Barn (34783 Grantham College Drive, Slidell)

• Fritchie Public Works Barn (63119 LA-1090, Pearl River)

• Keller Public Works Barn (63131 Fish Hatchery Road, Lacombe)

• St. Tammany Parish Government Complex (21410 Koop Drive, Mandeville)

• Covington Public Works Barn (1305 N. Florida Street, Covington)

Residents should bring their own shovels. Assistance will be available to those in need by calling 985-898-2557.

Thursday afternoon, a St. Tammany Parish Councilman posted photos of some of Slidell's flood prone areas. Drivers were pictured going through high water on Gause and Cross Gates Boulevards. Thankfully, it receded within a couple of hours.

Nearby in Tangipahoa Parish, the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management closed local waterways to recreational traffic due to "rising water on our rivers."

In Grand Isle, the police department warned drivers that Highway 1 was flooded in "multiple areas" due to coastal flooding.
