NEW ORLEANS — Famed New Orleans rapper Choppa, whose real name is Darwin Turner, has been hospitalized following a vehicle accident over the weekend, according to a post on his official Instagram account Wednesday morning.

"The family wanted to share that Choppa and his fiancée was [sic] in a car accident Sunday night. His fiancée is okay, but he is still currently in the hospital. By God's grace, he is in the early stages of recovery. Thank you all for your encouraging messages and prayers; they mean a lot to him. He still needs plenty of rest, so we appreciate your understanding."

A previous post made on Sunday prior to the Eagles 15-12 win over the Saints in the Caesars Superdome showed Choppa hyping the NFC matchup, something the rapper/singer of the 2002 hit 'Choppa Style' has been known to do as a lifelong fan and former performer at local Pelicans and Saints games, including the infamous "no-call" game against the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 NFC Championship.

He performed for the Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center on April 27, during a playoff game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

According to his IG account, the 43-year-old artist most recently performed on Friday at a University Medical Center tailgate for Week 3 as a "thank-you" from UMC to its workers for their tireless commitment.

Choppa was previously a member of the 504 Boyz, a local all-star hip-hop crew under Master P's latter-day New No Limit Records.

Aside from Choppa and Master P, other members of the 504 Boyz included C-Murder, Curren$y, Krazy, Mac, Magic, Mystikal, Silkk the Shocker, and T-Bo.
