Judge refuses stay in lawsuit against Mayor Cantrell

A federal judge has refused to pause a civil rights lawsuit against the mayor.

NEW ORLEANS — A federal judge has refused to pause a civil rights lawsuit against the mayor. Anne Breaud, claims Mayor Cantrell used her position to get information from law enforcement databases.

Then used that to file a restraining order, which was later tossed out.

Breaud says it was retaliation for photos she took of the mayor and her former bodyguard Jeffery Vappie.

Vappie has since been indicted on seven counts of wire fraud and one count of making false statements to the FBI.

Cantrell says she didn't want to incriminate herself amid the investigation.

But the judge ruled that because she hasn't been indicted, a stay isn't warranted.
