Going to Atlanta for the game? Here’s what to know

Helene caused widespread flooding, outages, and downed trees in Atlanta. The Saints-Falcons game is not impacted, but some fan travel might be.

NEW ORLEANS — Helene brought high water and widespread outages to parts of Atlanta. The Saints are set to travel there Sunday to play the Falcons and, as of now, it does not appear that the game will be affected.

“I know our guys are on top of it,” Saints Head Coach Dennis Allen said at a press conference Friday, “We haven’t had any discussions about any logistical issues.”

Fans traveling to the game should be in the clear too, though it may be a good idea to double-check flights, hotels, and road conditions before setting out.

One flight from New Orleans to Atlanta was canceled Friday morning. For the rest of the day, there were a few delays on the route but nothing extreme. “I was like, well, my flight wasn’t canceled,” said Saints fan Dionne Thomas, who WWL Louisiana spoke with at the Delta check-in counter, “So why not?”

Delta carried the majority of flights between New Orleans and Atlanta on Friday. The airline is waiving rebooking fees for people traveling to Atlanta on September 27.

For fans who plan to drive, rather than fly, I-20 and I-85 are both open, though some smaller roads in and around Atlanta are closed.

Saints fans heading to Atlanta should also consider calling their hotels. As of Friday afternoon, more than 15,000 homes and businesses in Fulton County still did not have power. None of the outages were in the same zip code as the stadium, however, so hotels close by have a better chance of being in the clear.
