NOFD puts out another fire, one day after residents call for change

The cause of the fire is unknown but Nelson said the three "homes were not lawfully occupied, none of them had water, electrical meters or water meters."

NEW ORLEANS — Just one day after the New Orleans Fire Department was called to put out a fire on Allen Street, crews rolled out again to the same block but to a difference house in the 7th Ward.

The incident happened before 11 a.m. and crews "found heavy fire involved in the original fire building which was 2613-15 Allen Street," Fire Chief Roman Nelson said.

He said the fire was next door to 2617-19 Allen Street, which is where a two-alarm fire occurred last week.

Nelson said a few homes nearby were damaged. There were 22 fire units on the scene and other emergency personnel.

The cause of the fire is unknown but Nelson said the three "homes were not lawfully occupied, none of them had water, electrical meters or water meters."

Chief Nelson says the recent fire is “suspicious” because it follows last week’s fire at vacant houses which was potentially caused by a “utility theft” and illegal wiring.
