Drivers speak about hours-long stall on Westbound Crescent City Connection after shooting investigation

“I didn’t even move. We were just moving a couple of inches, waiting and waiting,” one driver said.

NEW ORLEANS — UPDATE: On Monday, Feb. 26, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office released the identity of the fatal shooting victim as Giovanne Coleman.

Hundreds of drivers were stuck in traffic for hours on Thursday afternoon, after New Orleans Police closed off Westbound lanes of the Crescent City Connection.

“It was so many cars, and we sat for at least three hours,” one driver said.

NOPD tells us a 23-year old man with a gunshot wound, was driven to the hospital just before 1 p.m.

A short time later, investigators shut down U.S. Highway 90 at the St. Charles Ave exit, leading to long delays, as they worked to figure out exactly where the shooting happened.

“I didn’t even move. We were just moving a couple of inches, waiting and waiting,” the driver said.

Hours later, they were able to narrow down the scene to an area near the Tchoupitoulas exit. The bridge reopened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The shooting and what lead to it are still under investigation.
