NEW ORLEANS — The district attorney's office says a New Orleans couple has been charged with murder in the death of the woman's 21-month-old daughter.
District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro announced the news Monday.
A grand jury indicted 27-year-old Tyrell Reddix and 24-year-old Shawnise Sherman on October 24 with second-degree murder and cruelty to a juvenile.
But the district attorney's office says the indictment was not made public to allow law enforcement to arrest Reddix and Sherman.
Police arrested them Monday.
Brooke Sherman died on May 8. Emergency personnel responding to a 911 call said she had bruises on her face and body and was in cardiac arrest when they arrived.
The coroner's office ruled her death a homicide in August 2019.
It was not immediately known if Reddix and Sherman had lawyers.
