City needs $1B to complete road projects

The current deadline is March 2025 but Threat said the city will request another extension from FEMA to push that deadline back to 2027 or 2028.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans city officials are about $1 billion short of the funding required to fix hundreds of streets in the city, according to Nola.com.

This roadwork project was one of the Cantrell administration's main goals, but it's been faced with delays and cost problems over the past six years.

Joe Threat, the city's Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for infrastructure told our partners, construction firms have been giving higher estimates for the work because of the rising cost of labor and materials.

The current deadline is March 2025 but Threat said the city will request another extension from FEMA to push that deadline back to 2027 or 2028.
