Two injured in accident, Causeway Southbound reopens

Emergency personnel had to cut the doors off of the car in order to save the two victims.

NEW ORLEANS — Two people were injured after an accident on Causeway Southbound Saturday evening, according to Causeway officials.

The accident caused the Causeway to close around 6:49 p.m., when an alert was sent by the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission.

Causeway police were chasing a car Northbound going 104 mph when the driver turned around in one of the crossovers and hit a car with two people inside, according to Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou.

Emergency personnel had to cut the doors off of the car in order to save the two victims.

Officials said EMS was on the scene and the victims were taken to a nearby hospital with non-fatal injuries.
