82-year-old woman attacked by dogs in Gentilly

According to Dr. Morris, the wounds left behind on his mother will take months to heal.

NEW ORLEANS — A Gentilly woman is in the hospital recovering after she says three dogs attacked her in her driveway.

82-year-old Paticia Morris had just driven into her driveway on Filmore Monday afternoon when she says three large dogs attacked her as she was unloading her vehicle.

WWL Louisiana spoke with her son, Dr. Steven Morris.

“She never saw where they came from," he said. "She couldn’t fight them off.”

Morris says a neighbor just so happened to come home right at the time of the attack and heard Morris' screams.

“They pried the dog's mouth off of her leg," he said.

According to Dr. Morris, the wounds left behind on his mother will take months to heal.

“She’s on antibiotics, she’s on fluids," he said. "We don’t know if the dogs were vaccinated for rabies or anything, so she’s had to get rabies injections.”

Now that he knows his mother will survive, Morris says they want to find the animals so no one else will get attacked.

“You know people have children," he said. "She was just getting out of her car in broad daylight and this happened.”

He wants to make sure her neighbor knows how thankful he is they helped.

“For them to jump in without thinking for themselves is truly heroic," he said.

The Morris family is offering a reward if anyone can help find the roaming dogs.
