NEW ORLEANS — Dozens of toys were donated to the Orleans Juvenile Justice Intervention Center ahead of the Christmas holidays – all to put smiles on children's faces on Christmas Day.
On Friday, some New Hope Baptist Church members rolled in basketballs, board games, character socks, footballs, and more to the center.
"We're here just to be a blessing to others," said Karen Chambers, leader of New Hope's Junior Mission. "Not only during this Christmas season but it's important that we show love and demonstrate the love of Christ every day throughout the year."
In addition to toys, the church members brought toiletries and grooming items, helping the youth present themselves confidently and professionally.
Toting bags inside the Justice Center, members reflected on the joy of giving.
"It's always more blessing to give than to receive," Chambers said. "So I look at every day that God gives us an opportunity to show love and to demonstrate love."
Supporting the community aligns with New Hope's core mission.
It is our mandate and opportunity to represent Christ wherever we go," she said.
