Line of storms move to MS coast, Neutral ground parking allowed in N.O.

Heavy rain that could cause street flooding in low-lying areas.

NEW ORLEANS — Stormy weather arrives on St. Patrick's Day likely from early morning through early afternoon. 

Meteorologist Alexa Trischler says the timing seems to show rain entering the metro area between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. with the strongest storms and heaviest rains in the metro New Orleans area from around 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A few strong storms with high wind gusts are possible. The main concern will be some isolated street flooding as 2+ inches of rain are expected in most spots, some of which are already saturated by rains from Friday.

Due to anticipated street flood, the City of New Orleans has allowed parking on the neutral ground until 7:00 p.m. Sunday. You can move your vehicle to higher ground but be sure to not block intersections, streetcar tracks, or driveways.

Sewerage and Water Board Status

  • DPS 3 on Florida Ave near Hwy 90: D Pump out of service due to replacement of bearing housing unit.
    • 4 additional drainage pumps available at this station + 4 constant duty pumps
  • DPS 10 at Haynes Blvd. and Shubrick Ave. at Citrus Canal: No. 1 Pump out of service
    • 3 additional drainage pumps available at this station
  • DPS 13 near Tall Timbers Algiers: No. 4 Pump on standby for emergency use only.
    • 5 additional drainage pumps available at this station + one constant duty pump
  • DPS 15 near Intracoastal Waterway and Industrial Pkwy: No. 1 Pump out of service.
    • 2 additional drainage pumps available at this station
  • DPS 17 near Florida Ave. and Peoples: Pumps A & D out of service due to issues with the electric motor. 

All underpass pumps in service.
