NEW ORLEANS — Nearly a decade after a tornado forced agency personnel to work out of temporary buildings on the site of NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility, which was ravaged by a tornado in 2017, the National Finance Center is moving to a new home.

According to WWL Louisiana's media partner NOLA.com, the seven-year search for a new home for some 600 employees has led the agency to move operations to The Beach at UNO after being in New Orleans East since 1973.

Led by President Rebecca Conwell, The Beach at UNO is a nonprofit research and technology park located next to the University of New Orleans along Lake Pontchartrain in Gentilly.

"We are thrilled to give the National Finance Center a home," Conwell told Times-Picayune reporter Rich Collins. "They will be a great addition to The Beach community."

According to NOLA.com, Conwell confirmed a lease was signed, but she declined to discuss details when asked about the deal.

The NFC falls under the United States Department of Agriculture and provides human resources, as well as financial and administrative services for federal government agencies.
