Leslie Spoon signs off from WWL after 9 years

Leslie began at WWL as a sports reporter/anchor and made her way to the morning news anchor desk.

NEW ORLEANS — Leslie Spoon said goodbye to WWL Louisiana Thursday, exiting after nine years in various roles that included sports reporter and anchor, Morning News anchor and, most recently, as anchor of the WWL Louisiana Noon News.

Leslie covered the Saints, Pelicans, high school sports, did a series known as Access Code, where she highlighted area zip codes and businesses within them.

Leslie received goodbyes from current and former colleagues like Sheba Turk, Mike Hoss, Dave Nussbaum, Doug Mouton and, of course, the current morning show team.

"I'm going to miss everyone so much," she said during Thursday's morning show. "It's time for a new challenge and a normal schedule."

Leslie was actually hired by Mike Hoss, when he was the acting news director nine years ago.

"Leslie did such great things in the sports department and on the morning show," said Hoss.

Mouton recalled trying to hire a sports anchor and working with Hoss, who sent him dozens of tapes of potential candidates. "I walked into Mike's office and he asked me who I liked and I said 'Spoon' and he said, 'Me, too., let's just hire her. It turned out to be a spectacularly smart hire."

Here are some of the videos of the goodbyes for Leslie.
