Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at local favorite Ground Pat’i in Metairie

The restaurant on David Drive caught fire on Monday evening reports say.

NEW ORLEANS — The Ground Pat'i Restaurant on David Drive in Metairie caught fire Monday evening.

The two-alarm fire broke out at about 7:05 p.m. and was under control by 9:15 p.m. according to reports. No one was hurt in the fire.

According to Jefferson Parish spokesperson Gretchen Hirt, the restaurant was closed at the time of the fire which caused a total loss of property.

The Third District Fire Department, East Bank Consolidated Fire Department, JPSO, and State Fire Marshal’s Office are on the scene investigating the cause.

Owner and CEO of Metairie’s Ground Pat’I, Ryan Dalmado, says watching their livelihood burn to the ground is like a bad dream.

"I watched my wife’s dream go up in flames. Her dream of becoming a restaurant owner. It was almost a year to this day February 1st, 2022 it became official," Dalmado said in a social media post. "She devoted her life, and put her heart and soul into Ground Pati. She had a vision and she made it a reality. From installing LED lights on the on the building,   decorating inside for every holiday, and even making a mini toy store for kids to pick through after they ate dinner. She wanted everyone to know where Ground Pati is."

Tonight just feels like this all a bad dream. I watched our livelihood burn to the ground. I watched my wife’s dream go...

A total of 6 units and 35 firefighters responded to a 2nd alarm fire last night at Ground Pat'i Grille & Bar, located at 3124 David Drive. The fire was reported at 7:05 p.m. and Squad 349 of the Third District Fire Department was the first to arrive on scene at 7:10 p.m. The fire was under control by 9:15 p.m. The restaurant was closed at the time and there were no injuries; however, the fire caused a total loss of property. The Third District Fire Department, East Bank Consolidated Fire Department, JPSO and State Fire Marshal’s Office are on the scene investigating the cause.
