Men trying to get 48 dogs adopted in 48 states

1 RV, 2 men, and 6 dogs, all on a mission.

NEW ORLEANS -- 1 RV, 2 men, and 6 dogs, all on a mission to save at least 48 dogs in 48 states.

"It hasn't been done before, and I know it sounds crazy to a lot of people and we just felt like this was the best way not just to spread awareness, but to bring action to it," Lee Asher said.

Asher worked for years in business, but he also had a calling for helping animals. The passion bit him when he was younger.

"I've been volunteering at animal shelters ever since, and I just feel very connected to dogs. I feel like I know them every well," he said.

He began raising money on Kickstart, and this year began his mission, leaving from Southern California. His best friend, Luke Barton, is helping to harness the power of cuteness in photography to promote animal adoption.

"People shoot down on dogs, so I kind of switched it up to shoot up and give them size," Barton said.

Barton knows his subjects are photogenic, but it still takes skill to take a photo that moves people. So far, the group has already amassed 75,000 followers on Instagram.

"Wherever we go people who see the RV just run up to the RV and almost welcome themselves in," Asher said.

Asher points out all six of his camera-loving dogs were rescues. He wants others to know that they can find the same Instafamous dogs at shelters anywhere.

"We're fortunate that the Walmart parking lots have us, and that's usually where we stay."

They began their journey in California. This visit to Louisiana brought the crew to the SPCA on the Westbank.

"We've already gotten 23 dogs adopted so far that we've paid for but we've got hundreds and hundreds, maybe even a thousand messages from people saying they just adopted a dog because of this whole missions."

While the current goal is to travel to all 48 states and save pets, Asher believes this could quite possibly become a life mission.

A total of three dogs were saved as a result of the stop on Wednesday.
