TERREBONNE PARISH, La. — A marsh fire continues to burn in Terrebonne Parish and firefighters continue to monitor its development, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The fire is located between Bull Run Road and Hwy 90 and currently poses no immediate threat to any structures or homes.
Local and State emergency officials are aware of the situation and are actively working to mitigate the situation, the sheriff’s office reports.
“We have seen that the smoke lowers roadway visibility considerably, especially during night and early morning hours," Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet said.
Sheriff Soignet also says he urges travelers to remain patient, cautious, and aware of the surroundings if they must drive in the area.
Sheriff Soignet said his deputies are working closely with the Schriever Fire Department, which is managing the fire response in the affected area.
Schriever Fire Department Chief, Chris Bourgeois told WWLTV, "We have definitely seen an increase of larger fires that we're used to."
The Bull Run marsh fire is one of three fires burning across the New Orleans region. There is a marsh fire burning in Laffite which destroyed 147 acres and is about 90% contained, and the other marsh fire is burning in New Orleans East.
