Arrest made in fatal wreck that killed man, pregnant woman on Hwy 11

NEW ORLEANS -- A man and a pregnant woman were killed early Saturday morning after a wreck on the Highway 11 Bridge.

Police said Sunday morning Paul Fleming was under arrest in connection with the wreck.

According to the New Orleans Police department, around 9 a.m., the driver of a 2010 Toyota Tacoma was traveling northbound and entered the bridge on the flyover ramp. As the Tacoma continued onto the bridge, it crossed over into the southbound lane, where it hit head-on with a gray Nissan Versa.

Police said the 34-year-old driver of the Versa, his seven-month pregnant passenger, and her unborn baby were pronounced dead at the hospital as a result of the wreck.

Police said Fleming, who was driving the Tacoma, was brought to the NOPD Traffic headquarters for testing, and his female passenger was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Officials said blood and alcohol tests are pending and the investigation is still ongoing.

Fleming faces various charges, including third-degree feticide and negligent homicide.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call Traffic Fatality Investigatory Danny Ellis and (504) 658-6210.
