Man fishing with his children drowns after jumping off Old Spanish Trail Bridge, sheriff reports

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, it happened at about 4:40 pm Sunday.

DES ALLEMANDS, La. — A Des Allemands man fishing with children drowned after jumping off the Old Spanish Trail Bridge.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, it happened at about 4:40 pm Sunday.

They say the 39-year-old man, not yet identified, was fishing with his children when, for reasons unknown, he jumped into the water and began swimming. He then went underwater and did not resurface.

Sheriff’s deputies and local firefighters quickly responded to the area. Divers went into the water a short time later and began searching for the man. At approximately 10:30 P.M., search team members located and recovered the body of the victim.

The sheriff’s office says the victim’s name is not being released at this time.
