NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Fire Department says the state is sending a team of specialized first responders to Florida to help in search and rescue efforts after Hurricane Milton makes landfall.
Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services personnel from New Orleans, St Bernard, Hammond, Kenner, and Lafourche Fire Departments as well as New Orleans Emergency Medical Services personnel will be traveling to Tallahassee Monday.
Overnight they will stage plans to arrive in Orlando’s convention center on Tuesday just before hurricane Milton’s projected arrival which is anticipated to be Wednesday.
“As Gulf South residents, we completely empathize with the anticipated danger and uncertainty being faced by our neighbors in Florida, especially while still attempting to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene. We’d like to wish safe travels to the members of LA-Task Force 1 and pray for the safety of all in this storm’s path,” said NOFD spokesperson Captain Edwin Holmes.
Over the weekend Milton intensified to a hurricane and is expected to quickly strengthen to a major hurricane when it makes landfall somewhere in the Tampa Bay area which is still recovering from Hurricane Helene.
