NEW ORLEANS — Law enforcement agencies across Louisiana are stepping up patrols this Thanksgiving holiday to enforce seat belt laws as part of the ongoing "Click It or Ticket" campaign.
The nationwide initiative, which began last weekend, will run through Sunday.
Authorities in Louisiana and across the country are reminding drivers and passengers that seat belt use is required for everyone in a vehicle, regardless of seating position.
Seatbelt violators in Louisiana face a $50 fine for a first offense, with penalties increasing to $75 for a second offense. Officials emphasize that the campaign aims to promote safety during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
