'It was devastating' | Thibodaux residents still cleaning up after Hurricane Francine

Like many of his neighbors, Brown has to find a way to pay for what he lost, and with no insurance, he’s not sure what he’ll do.

THIBODAUX, La. — “It was a catastrophe,” Ron Brown said. “It was devastating.”

Ron Brown moved into his house on Midland Road in Thibodaux just last year.

“The water was steadily rising and rising. The floor started coming up, and I couldn’t do anything about it,” Brown said.

Much of what he moved into that house now sits by the street, saturated with flood water from Hurricane Francine.

“I couldn’t do anything. I was just hoping for the better, hoping it wouldn’t get any worse,” Brown said.

According to Brown, dozens of homes near Midland Drive flooded.

Two days after the category 2 hurricane made landfall, they’re still cleaning up what it left behind.

Like many of his neighbors, Brown has to find a way to pay for what he lost, and with no insurance, he’s not sure what he’ll do.

“It’s going to be a big financial loss,” Brown said.

Because of his neighbors on Midland, he says he knows he’ll make it through.

“I have some good neighbors. They’re good neighbors. They have anything you need,” Brown said.
