Houma family hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning, authorities say

Firefighters said the family is lucky to be alive.

HOUMA, La. — A family in Houma is in the hospital Saturday night because of carbon monoxide poisoning caused by their generators, according to the Bayou Cane Fire Protection District.

Firefighters said the family is lucky to be alive.

The Bayou Cane Fire Protection District said they found three people barely conscious in a home in the 2900 block of Broadmoor Ave.

The family was vomiting and having trouble breathing, a release said.

The fire department said two generators were running, one in the garage and one on the porch.

"All 3 patients were transported to the hospital extremely ill. Carbon Monoxide levels where they were sleeping read 800 ppm which is lethal,"  firefighters said.

The fire department reminds others of how important safe generator practices are.
