HOUMA, La. — Authorities say three bystanders, including a 15-year-old boy, were wounded following a shootout between two groups on Main Street in Houma on Saturday evening.
According to the Houma Police Department, the shooting happened around 11:18 p.m. near the intersection of Polk Street and Main Street. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found three victims - a 35-year-old man, a 47-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy with gunshot wounds.
The man had been shot in his upper body while the woman and boy each had a gunshot wound to their leg. All three victims were taken to a hospital for treatment and are expected to fully recover.
The police department said it believes two groups of individuals involved had an argument that escalated into a shootout. The victims were not involved in the altercation and were just in the area.
The Krewe of Aquarius rolled through West Main Street in Houma starting at 6 p.m. The police department did not say whether the groups had attended the parade.
Saturday's shooting marks the second year in a row in which bystanders were wounded in a shooting at that intersection following the Krewe of Aquarius parade. Last year, a man was shot after two groups were involved in a fight and gunfire erupted. Officers investigating that shooting later found a 15-year-old armed with a pistol and linked him to the shooting.
